Your appliances can be a pretty important part of your everyday life, doing everything from keeping you warm to heating up your food. However, how long should you expect most of your appliances to last? While there are certain signs your appliances may be wearing out, are you aware of the average shelf life of some of your main appliances? Let’s take a look at a few of your home’s major appliances and how long you should expect them to work.

Gas And Electric Dryers

Whether electric or gas powered, your dryer will only function for so long. Additionally, they will differ in longevity depending on how they are powered. Gas dryers can be expected to last anywhere from 11 to 16 years. On the other hand, electric dryers have a slightly longer lifespan, generally lasting between 11 and 18 years.

Washing Machine

Considering the overall convenience it brings, a washing machine is a vital appliance for any home. Most washing machines have an average lifespan of 12 years, with some lasting as many as 16. Nobody likes washing clothes by hand, so knowing your dishwasher’s manufacturing date can help you plan out its replacement.

Gas And Electric Ranges

Combination ovens and stovetops, also known as ranges, are a great appliance for all your cooking needs. Much like dryers, they will have different lifespans depending on how they are powered. Electric ranges will usually last anywhere from 13 to 20 years. Gas ranges, on the other hand, have a general lifespan of 15 to 23 years, meaning the gas powered appliance will ultimately have the longer lifespan. This is especially interesting when you consider it's the other way around when it comes to dryers.

While you would like to know the lifespan of your home’s appliances, you may not know when they were originally manufactured. With HomeRecalls, you can see when your home appliances were made, allowing you to plan for the future. Additionally, you will be notified whenever a recall is announced on your home’s appliances, no matter when you purchased them.
